Banksy’s Lambeth Palace-oh shit we missed it
Last week I was in London for a short break with my girlfriend,Elif. Both of us are really into street art and stencils and because of this “passion” you can may call us “fanboys”.When I saw the news about the movie premiere, this was my reaction.
There’s much going on right now about Banksy, most of it about his way of art but recently all the heads turned to his pop-up cinema Lambeth Palace where the premiere of the movie called ”Exit Through The Gift Shop” takes place.
Timeout London take a deep look inside the place and they say “London’s newest, darkest and dirtiest cinema, Lambeth Palace, situated under hip intersection Waterloo train station and featuring surround sound street art, it will be showing Banksy’s film ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’ until March 4” but tickets are sold out, sorry.
Last week Banksy’s first film was given a red-carpet screening in the vast Berlinale Palast as part of the Berlin Film Festival and now it’s time for the homeland,London.A man in a gas mask was painting a red carpet outside of the Lambeth Palace, an abandoned tunnel under the Waterloo Station. Is it Banksy?! Not exactly, because even in the movie we will not see his face for a second.
“the Robin Hood of street art who refuses to be photographed and whose work is subversive and satirical. On the other, he is so lionised by the art world establishment “ Geofrey Macnab from the independent says. It’s not just he is one of the most famous British artists of the 21st century also he’s still remains anonymous with his art.
Anyway, the movie…It’s about following the antics of fellow graffitti artist Thierry Guetta ( big brother of David Guetta…kidding…seriously..) and he obsesses over Banksys work (who doesn’t?).He spent many years filming Banksys work and then turned into a street artist himself a.k.a. Mr.Brainwash (very sad).
Return to the Palace; Banksys pop up cinema has been described as the darkest and dirtiest cinema around by timeout crew but it has got plenty good stuff which will blind your eyes,I mean if you are a Banksy fan ( again, who doesn’t ).Stuff like the big grubb ice cream van and a large lion holding a microphone.Enough reading, check out these pics.

In 2008, I saw one of the works of Banksy with my own eyes, near the Archway station. But last time, I saw him on the spot lights, wow, big change for street art. Hope we could see it here in Istanbul otherwise in torrent we trust.
